Oh Lifelong Song That Is Purely and Most Surely Love

for Toni

Were you the stone collecting dew
and I the flower needing water?
Then to you I owe the debt of tears.

I spent time wondering
more time wandering
through moonlight reflecting on water.

I felt empty when I was done.

But through Time wondering
through moonlight wandering
reflected in the love

of the flower for the water
from the stone collecting dew,
I repay my debt to you.

(inspired by The Dream of the Red Chamber by Cao Xueqin)
